Formerly known as “Bundesverband Holz und Kunststoff (BHKH)”, the German Association of Carpentry and Joinery has re-branded as “Tischler Schreiner Deutschland” and was running a pavilion at Stand A33 in Hall 17.
The Association has been running a mix of lectures and presentations on the broad range of services offered by its members plus the various initiatives it runs in support of its members. One of the keynote themes was CE conformity marking, which will be mandatory for all windows and exterior doors sold in Europe from 2010 on. The "fenster marke tischler / schreiner" initiative has been running a stand at the pavilion dedicated to affordable CE marking systems for cabinetmakers and carpenters.
Another highlight at the German Association of Carpentry and Joinery pavilion was a special workshop where visitors to the fair were able to watch two young apprentices as they train for WorldSkills London 2011. In addition, a group of woodwork students from a number of German vocational schools will be commemorating the International Year of Forests with a display themed “Möbelbaum” (“Furniture Tree”). Look out for stunning, original creations.
The German Association of Carpentry and Joinery’s program also features special activities, including an aptitude test for young people considering careers in cabinetmaking and joinery.
One of the traditional highlights of the Association’s program was the awards ceremony for the national-level winners of Germany’s Form & Function competition for journeyman’s pieces (qualifying projects) by final-year joinery and cabinetmaking apprentices. The build-up to the ceremony includes an exhibition of pieces by the regional winners.
