Tour 1 – Integrated Manufacturing/Automation

What does it take to make production both resource-efficient and flexible? What do manufacturers need in order to respond swiftly to changing market conditions and growing customer demand for product individualization? The answer is integration. To be part of the digital age and stay competitive, manufacturers need to digitally integrate their machines, products, components and up- and downstream systems. They need to invest in the latest automation technology. Smart Factory. Connected Factory. Industry 4.0. Predictive Maintenance. These approaches all part of the integrated manufacturing and automation landscape. And they are as relevant in small workshops as they are in large factories.

This tour focuses on advanced production technology and associated software solutions. It is your opportunity to present your latest IT and industrial automation solutions and show visitors how your robotics and automation technology can make their production more efficient. Let visitors see how your machines "talk"to one another and enable individualization in both custom and mass production.

Tour 2 – Workshop of the future

What sorts of machines does the average joinery workshop use? Not so long ago, the answer was as simple as the machines themselves – basic, stand-alone processing centers. But that's a thing of the past, and being small is no longer a barrier to the benefits of automation. Today, fully automated systems are used by firms of all sizes, from small joinery workshops with only three employees right up to industrialscale furniture manufacturers.

The sorts of customers that joinery firms can access have also changed. Thanks to eCommerce and highly sophisticated online product configuration tools, these firms are now able to push beyond the regionalized confines of more traditional sales channels and access customers all around the world. What’s more, the configuration tools eliminate almost all of the job preparation work because all the specifications and dimensions are entered by the customer and the execution planning is done by downstream software.

Tour 3 – Processing of Plastics and Composites

In 2015, LIGNA started making a special highlight of the fact that woodworking machinery can also be used for processing non-wood materials, particularly plastics and composites, but also mineral and many other types of materials. The displays of non-wood uses were and will continue to be clustered in a special presentation dubbed "Surprisingly Versatile." Versatile woodworking machines are already used in caravan and boat building, vehicle customization, ship/aircraft interior finishing, plastics and composites finishing and fabrication and construction materials production.
