The machine is mounted on a stable, warp resistant base frame.
Two machine housings are used for the mounting of cutter heads and drive motors.
These cutter heads are positioned on high-precision linear guides either electromechanically or servohydraulically.
When using an electro-mechanical positioning, the cutterhead units are hydraulically locked in their working position, resulting in an excellent sawing accuracy.
The cutter heads are designed with up to three steps depending on the cutting depth. The number of knives per step depends on the feed speed, the number of revolutions and the required chip length. According to species and constitution of the logs either saw rings, saw segments or dressing knives can be used. It is possible at any time to change from saw rings to dressing knives thanks to interchangeable tool carriers. It is therefore possible to respond to the various requests for surface finish and chip quality. Feed speeds up to 200 m/min. guarantee high capacities.
The chipper canters VM 45 and VM 50 are easy to operate and maintain.
For tool change one of the cutterhead units is moved to outer position and a working platform between the cutter heads is hydraulically swivelled in. This provides sufficient space for a safe tool change and maintenance work.
