The portal crane is the final rounded form in the product range of electric driven rail cars. In the same way as the round wood handling car (RUW) the portal crane was developed and designed especially for the quick handling of round wood. Thanks to the crane traveling cross-wise on the portal, a radius and working range of more than 40 m width can be reached.
This technology for the handling and sorting in the round wood yard provides the following advantages:
The operator may fully concentrate on the sorting, as the routing via the track is pre-set, which is a time saving factor and consequently an operating cost saving factor.
Moreover, the energy consumption as well as the maintenance charges for electric driven vehicles are considerably lower than e.g. for diesel driven ones.
The handling capacity of the portal crane can reach up to 200,000 m3 solid measure of timber per year in the one-shift operation.
