With conventional root reducers, the round wood sections are inserted into the reducer sideways, reduced and ejected again. Cycle times of 6 - 8 secs. are possible.
Baljer & Zembrod has developed a new root reducer which enables safe transport through the machine by means of a patented, rotatable star prism and shortens cycle times by 20 - 30 %.
With this design the round wood section is placed on the cross conveyor of the reducer via a feeder. From here it is transported to the core piece of the reducer - the three-part, infinitely rotatable star-shaped V-block. During the rotary movement, the section is lifted off the cross conveyor and placed in machining position. Simultaneously to this movement, holders and a cutting shaft are moved in. The trunk is turned and reduced via the support chains arranged in a star shape. When approx. 90 % of the reducing process has been completed, the rotary movement is started again. The holders and cutting shaft return to home position. The reduced trunk is ejected and placed on the cross conveyor. At the same time the next round section is fed in.
