Energy from Wood

Leave it to the Dutch

HoSt was founded in 1991 as a joint venture between Holec Projects and Stork, two well-established energy system suppliers. A completely independent company for 20 years now, its activities focus entirely on the technological development of waste-to-energy systems for processing biomass and waste flows and on supplying systems for sustainable energy generation from biomass and waste. HoSt is bringing a wealth of experience to LIGNA 2019, not to mention the expertise of its more than 120 engineers who plan, construct and install state-of-the-art bioenergy systems. Its main aim is to use a current project to show the wood industry what it can do.

HoSt is currently installing a new-generation fuel-flexible CHP plant with a low environmental impact in an existing building on an industrial site in the Dutch municipality of Duiven. The plant has been developed to burn pulped paper and waste wood. Work started in November 2018 and is due to be completed by mid-2020. Initially, low-grade biomass will be incinerated, such as waste from a composting plant. However, going forward, the new plant is to be able to burn more types of biomass and waste so it can be operated without having to rely on high-grade and costly wood chips, which are in limited supply. As the plant is located close to a nature reserve, it has to meet very strict emission requirements. By using cutting-edge flue gas cleaning technology, nitrogen dioxide emissions are expected to be five times lower than the limit that applies in the Netherlands.
