Description

Wood is valuable raw material not only because of price of wood itself but also because of harvesting and transportation costs. Those costs need to add to every cubic metres before wood is on the mill gate. Therefore it is very important that yield and processing value of each stem is maximised and at the same time raw material needs for saw mill and other wood users need to be full filled. Processing value of log depend tree species, quality, diameter and length of the log. Especially right length and diameter distribution of logs is critical to saw mills because it describes how well production of saw mill fit to the market’s needs. Optimization is needed in order to maximize the value of the raw material and production.
