Since its foundation in 2006, the Institute for Man-Machine Interaction (MMI) of RWTH Aachen University, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, has been dealing with digitization and automation (not only) in forestry. In particular, within the project series "Virtual Forest", many innovative solutions for the forestry sector were developed. Via its partner RIF e.V. (Dortmund), these solutions have also been transferred as products to the Landesbetrieb Wald und Holz NRW and to the Landesforsten RLP. Currently, together with RIF e.V., the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) and the Institute of Industrial Engineering and Ergonomics (IAW) of RWTH, and the Forest Education Centre (FBZ) Arnsberg, MMI is working on "Industry 4.0 for Forestry" as part of the ERDF-funded infrastructure project "Center of Excellence for Forestry 4.0" (KWH4.0).
