Zarin Pirouz is a senior scientist in the Process Control and Sensors Group at FPInnovations. She received both her BSc and MSc degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of British Columbia. Her experience spans forest products manufacturing, computer networking, software engineering, semiconductor manufacturing, and wireless communication industries. Zarin has more than 20 years of research and development experience covering many sensing, optimization, and automation aspects of lumber manufacturing. She is currently focused on improving value recovery in the forest products industry by utilizing sensing technologies, such as x-ray scanning, NIR (near Infrared) spectroscopy, thermal imaging, and GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar), together with relevant acquisition, analysis, and modeling techniques.
