LIGNA 2017: Processing of Plastics and Composites
LIGNA 2017, which runs from 22 to 26 May, will show that the processing capabilities of today’s woodworking machines extend far beyond "just" wood, encompassing plastics and composite panels, insulation materials, building materials and more.14 Feb 2017
At their stands, exhibitors will profile the many non-wood applications of their standard machines. The main applications on show include caravan and boat building, vehicle, ship and aircraft interior finishing as well as plastics processing and fabrication. Processing plastic and composite materials is now a core part of joinery and cabinetmaking work.
The individual manufacturer’s displays by will be complemented by an information pavilion operated by the University of Stuttgart Institute for Machine Tools (IfW). Located at Stand B43 in Hall 27, the pavilion will showcase various items and workpieces that have been machined from plastics and fiber-reinforced composites using standard woodworking machines. What’s more, the pavilion will feature an array of measurement systems for analyzing and optimizing machines, tools and manufacturing processes. IfW will also use the pavilion to profile its current research projects.
In addition, Deutsche Messe is partnering with Stuttgart University to provide a stimulating and informative program of short presentations as well as guided tours that will take visitors to the stands of numerous exhibitors from the manufacturing, woodworking and wood processing, tools, surface technology and surface coating sectors. The exhibitors on the tour circuit will run live demonstrations and present product samples to illustrate the non-wood versatility of their machines.
The guided tours will be held on Monday, May 22nd and Wednesday, May 24th. They will be conducted in English and German and last for approximately two hours each. The tours will start at the Robotation Academy on the LIGNA fairgrounds. Tours cost EUR 15 per person. Prior online registration is required: www.ligna.de
