Two or three shifts are the rule rather than the exception in the timber industry. This not only puts a lot of strain on the people working there, but the equipment and machines also have to move constantly back and forth between the loading points, handle logs, or pick up wood chips, sawdust, and other sawmill by-products and feed them for further processing. No wonder, then, that their design and equipment calls for robust construction. Zeppelin employees will be demonstrating the technology and solutions available for use in wood handling at the LIGNA 2023 trade show in Hanover.

Exclusive premiere of the new wood handling champion

At booth M43 on the open-air site, for example, the Bavarians will exclusively present the new Cat MH3040 material handler for use with trailers with a towing capacity of up to 50 tons. It is equipped with a trailer hitch, a robust front end with a maximum reach of 14.4 meters and a good 13 meters of pile height, and a 1.75-square-meter timber grab. This allows timber loading and onward transport to be realized in one complete system, which significantly increases efficiency at the timber yard. The Cat MH3040 impresses with the highest payloads and greatest stability in its class, and with fuel consumption that Zeppelin says is second to none.

Output and efficiency improved in equal measure

Also on display at LIGNA 2023 is a new-generation Cat 972 wheel loader, equipped with all the performance, comfort and safety features relevant to timber operations. The Cat 972 features further reduced fuel consumption combined with higher productivity, helping the timber industry to improve output and efficiency in equal measure in the interests of sustainability. Both machines presented at the trade show will subsequently be available to customers for practical testing.

Even the most robust technology needs reliable service

As a rule, machines must be able to operate quickly and reliably under full load. A key criterion here is their availability, which is due to the extensive mass movement. To this end, customers can take advantage of extensive service offerings provided by Zeppelin so that routine machine maintenance is constantly ensured. The company will also provide an overview of this to interested trade show visitors. Other criteria that count, besides high performance and efficiency, are safety aspects. They play a central role for companies that work with wood. It is therefore all the more important that construction machines offer good visibility. Such features can also be the subject of technical discussions at the show. "We hope to be able to talk to many visitors and give them an understanding of our high-performance Cat construction machines and services," say Markus Riedlberger and Stefan Besendorfer, who are responsible in Zeppelin's product management for product groups such as the exhibits on display.
