• New event format in 2018
  • Hannover/Mexico City. The Magna ExpoMueblera wood and furniture industry trade show has just notched up a successful 23rd season (18 to 21 January) at the Centro Banamex exhibition center in Mexico City. This year marked the first time that the show was held under the management of German trade fair company Deutsche Messe AG, represented by its local subsidiary Hannover Fairs México.

Magna ExpoMueblera's premiere as a Deutsche Messe event was a resounding success. "It’s our first time at the helm of the show, and I am pleased to say that we achieved a marked increase in participation by international exhibitors and visitors alike," commented Christian Pfeiffer, Deutsche Messe’s Global Director LIGNA and Woodworking Events. This year's Magna ExpoMueblera featured over 250 exhibitors from about 30 nations, including a good many global market leaders, such as Stiles, Leitz, Felder, HOLZ-HER, Weinig, Kastamonu, SCM, Biesse, Altendorf and Siempelkamp.

The market leaders showcased an extensive array of products and solutions, ranging from entry-level CNC machines to integrated CNC systems for mass production. In fact, one of the highlights this year was the "CNC Applications" display area, which enjoyed strong international participation. The supporting workshop program, in particular, met with strong interest. The focus of the show's CNC content was on the use of new, smart technologies to boost productivity and enable integrated manufacturing across all stages in the wood processing chain.

Magna ExpoMueblera 2017 attracted visitors from 16 nations who came to see the fair’s extensive array of woodworking machinery, tools and equipment for custom and mass production, not to mention a wide range of fittings, accessories and materials. The show also featured panel products and veneer manufacturing, living room, kitchen and office furniture, and fabrics, upholstery materials and supplies.

"We are very satisfied with this year’s Magna ExpoMueblera. We achieved a pleasing volume and quality of new business. Things are happening in Mexico – companies are continuing to invest in new plant and equipment. Mexico is a strong market with a big population and a large number of young people. The economy is progressing well, and we believe it offers major growth potential," reported Marco Pedronici of SCM Group.

Following consultation with exhibitors and visitors, the division of Magna ExpoMueblera 2018 into two separate fairs will be postponed to a later date. The MagnaExpoMueblera Industrial, focusing on machinery, applications, materials, equipment and solutions for forestry, wood processing and furniture manufacturing, and MagnaExpoMueblera Mobiliario e Interiores, focusing on furniture, cabinetry, interior design, domestic appliances and floor coverings will be co-located again in Mexico City from 17 to 20 January 2018. The primary reason for this decision was the evaluation of visitor and exhibitor surveys following the fair. It was their wish to continue the strong growth trend that Magna ExpoMueblera established with Hannover Fairs México as organizer of the show.

Deutsche Messe has the global networks and quality contacts needed to make a success of these two new shows, thanks to its established event portfolio, which includes DOMOTEX, the world's leading trade fair for carpets and floor coverings, and LIGNA, the world's leading trade fair for wood industry machinery, plant and equipment. Pfeiffer: "Splitting Magna ExpoMueblera into two events will enable us to make each part even stronger."

On 8 June 2016, Deutsche Messe acquired a majority stake in Magna ExpoMueblera. The show focuses on the Mexican market, where it is an important facilitator of exports to North and Central America. It is therefore an excellent fit for Deutsche Messe's global network. The acquisition gives Deutsche Messe a presence in Mexico to match its lineup in the USA, Canada and Brazil.
