LIGNA.Builds – Building Together.
With LIGNA.Builds, a single-family home using modern wood-frame construction will be built live at LIGNA for the first time over the course of the five-day trade show, in collaboration with exhibitors and partners. From the foundation slab to the walls, floors, and roof structure—and culminating in the topping-out ceremony—visitors will experience the entire construction process in real time, showcasing the complete value chain of industrialized wood construction.
What is LIGNA.Builds
5 days - 1 house - realized by holzbau.tech
LIGNA.Builds is a live construction site at LIGNA where a one-and-a-half- or two-story wood-frame home will be built over the course of the five-day trade show. The project gives a behind-the-scenes look at processes that are normally seen only on construction sites or in manufacturing facilities.
LIGNA.Builds brings together machinery, tools, software, engineered wood products, and construction processes in a real-world demonstration project.
Each phase of construction demonstrates how modern manufacturing, skilled craftsmanship, digitalization, and innovative materials all come together.
From preparing the foundation slab to erecting the wood-frame structure, installing walls and ceilings, floors, and the roof – culminating in the topping-out ceremony – visitors experience every major stage of the construction process.
The result is a unique, hands-on experience that brings together technology, expertise, and real-world application.
Build the Future of Wood Construction
Why LIGNA.Builds
As a renewable resource, wood stores CO₂ over the long term, enables resource-efficient construction, and supports a high degree of prefabrication, short construction timelines, and a comfortable living environment. In short, wood construction represents the future of building.
At the same time, demands for precision, digitalization, and automation are increasing across the entire value chain. The LIGNA.Builds live construction site demonstrates how advanced machinery, modern manufacturing technologies, digital planning processes, and high-performance materials are continuously pushing timber construction forward. This is where innovation becomes a building – and theory becomes a real-world experience.
How LIGNA.Builds Works
Throughout the five-day LIGNA trade show, visitors can take part in guided tours, live assembly demonstrations at the construction site, expert talks, site walkthroughs, and, of course, the topping-out ceremony.
Many building components are produced live during LIGNA using machinery from participating exhibitors in the exhibition halls and are then transported to the construction site. In this way, LIGNA.Builds connects the innovations showcased in the halls with a real-world construction project in the outdoor area.
Exhibitors, technology partners, and leading timber construction experts turn the LIGNA.Builds site into a live showcase for innovation, digitalization, machinery, tools, materials, and skilled craftsmanship.

LIGNA.Builds unites these areas of expertise for the first time in a joint live construction project, bringing innovations across the entire construction process to life.
LIGNA.Builds will take place during LIGNA 2027 in the southern section of the open air site at the Hannover exhibition grounds. Together with LIGNA.Builds Village and LIGNA.TruckStop, it will form the central hub for modern timber construction.
The area combines a live construction site, exhibitor showcases, a stage program, and networking opportunities into a unique meeting point for the international timber construction industry.
LIGNA.Builds will run for the entire duration of LIGNA, from May 10 to 14, 2027. Throughout all five days of the trade show, visitors will be able to experience the construction progress firsthand - from the initial assembly steps to the topping-out ceremony.
The project will be complemented by live demonstrations, expert talks, site tours, and additional program highlights focused on modern timber construction.
Over the course of the five-day trade show, a building using modern wood-frame construction will be erected on the open-air-site. Numerous project partners and exhibitors will contribute their machinery, tools, materials, software solutions, and expertise throughout the construction process.
Selected building components will be manufactured live on the machines of participating exhibitors in the exhibition halls before being transported to the construction site, where they will be assembled step by step.
For the first time, visitors will have the opportunity to experience the entire value chain of modern timber construction – from digital planning and manufacturing to on-site assembly – brought to life in a real-world demonstration project: a live construction site.
At LIGNA.Builds, a full-scale building is being constructed using modern wood-frame construction. The goal is to demonstrate the entire construction process under real-world conditions while showcasing the capabilities of today's wood construction technologies.
The building's future use will be determined in collaboration with the building owner and the project partners. After LIGNA concludes, the structure will be relocated from the live construction site to its permanent location and reassembled on the owner's property. This ensures that the project will continue to serve as a visible example of sustainable, modern wood construction long after the trade show has ended.
