It is a sustainable, "green" roller compound. The proportion of the mixture components of renewable raw materials, these are mainly natural rubber and a wood-based, functionalized filler is almost 60%.
The starting point of the research project was the question of the extent to which traditional compound components can be replaced by sustainable and environmentally friendly substances and what influence this substitution has on the properties of the compound, the vulcanizate and the final article.
The aim was to develop mixtures for rollers based on bio-based, sustainable raw materials, with a negative CO2 footprint with comparable technical properties to existing rollers made from synthetic raw materials.
The result is the realization that with the right selection of the mixture components and with the right mixing method, mixtures with a negative CO2 footprint can be produced from the combination of natural rubber with wood-based fillers, the mechanical properties of which correspond to the requirement profile of existing rollers.
This significantly reduces the CO2 footprint through the use of sustainable raw materials in the manufacture of the rollers.
The processability of the mixture allows all common roll coating processes (sheet building, extrusion and strip winding). From this point of view, there are no restrictions with regard to the purpose and dimensions of the 'green' roller.
