At LIGNA 2025 in Hanover, Apixa from Heverlee, Belgium, will present the latest additions to its portfolio of industrial solutions for wood panel production: the 3D edge scanner and the 3D tongue and groove scanner. These systems have been developed alongside Apixa's broader range of 3D vision technologies to support edge quality control and drive the implementation of Industry 4.0 standards in wood-based panel manufacturing.
3D edge scanner checks structural integrity of the end product
Apixa's 3D edge scanner is an industrial-grade system for real-time inline evaluation of the quality of printed circuit board edges. It measures edge thickness and uniformity with sub-millimeter accuracy and provides early insight into the structural integrity of the end product. The scanner enables continuous quality monitoring along the production line and alerts operators to deviations before they lead to significant material losses. The solution also supports process optimization by providing data for fine-tuning resin and catalyst usage, press factor, and trimming parameters while maintaining high edge quality.
Precise real-time measurement of tongue and groove edges
Apixa's 3D tongue and groove scanner provides accurate real-time measurement of tongue and groove edges during production. Designed for inline use in industrial environments, it is designed to detect deviations from the specified profile with sub-millimeter accuracy immediately after cutting. The system evaluates several parameters, such as edge position, angle, and surface quality, to ensure that each board meets the standards. By adjusting the equipment in a timely manner, the scanner helps to avoid defects on a large scale, reduces callbacks, and minimizes downtime. The result is consistent quality and reliable, secure connections in the end products.
Other specialized 3D image processing systems
In addition to the 3D edge scanner and the 3D scanner for tongue and groove, Apixa is presenting various other specialized 3D image processing systems in Hanover, including the 3D log scanner, which was developed for inline evaluation of incoming logs. It monitors the most important dimensional parameters in real time and detects logs that do not comply with the standard. In such cases, it can trigger automatic rejection, thereby helping to protect personnel and equipment. The 3D mat scanner continuously tracks the profile of the flake mat and identifies problems such as height deviations, holes, and accumulations. Early detection of anomalies enables rapid intervention, which helps to reduce material losses. Finally, the 3D Flake Scanner is a solution installed on forming lines that evaluates the alignment and width distribution of flakes and strands in real time. It also provides timely insight into the condition of the chipping knives, supports consistent production quality, and optimizes knife maintenance schedules.
